Nichola Hits "Love Island"

Nichola is now on Fiji and has visited the "Love Island" location.But she will leave tomorrow to make her way back to England to arrive on Wednesday 10.00am.
Whilst on Bounty the love Island she has been swimming with Blue star fish, feeding turtles,climbing coconut trees (shes a monkey!!!!)and was thinking about going fishing.

Nichola is now in Auckland staying at the Mecure Hotel and getting ready to move on to Fiji.
Location
The hotel stands in downtown Auckland, next to the Britomart Transport Centre and 50 metres from the waterfront and ferry piers. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the Viaduct Harbour precinct, renowned as Auckland's centre of entertainment, dining and nightlife. Newmarket, Ponsonby and Parnell are all within 10-minute drive from the hotel.
This is her last night in New Zealand and tomorrow she will share a taxi to the airport with three others to catch the flight to Fiji.A few days will be spent there and then HOME !!!!

Hi how are you all
had a massage yesterday and saw Maori culture and exploding thermal springs just been zorbing (Zorbing is a recreational activity developed in the 1990s that consists of rolling downhill inside of a usually transparent, double-hulled sphere called a zorb, made from PVC.)with water inside it was such fun! Going black water rafting with glow worms now!!!

Lake Rotorua is the second largest lake in the North Island of New Zealand by surface area, and covers 7,878 ha. With a mean depth of only 11 m it is considerably smaller than nearby Lake Tarawera in terms of volume of water. It is located at 38°05′S, 176°16′E in the Bay of Plenty region. The city of Rotorua is sited on its southern shore, and the town of Ngongotaha is at the western edge of the lake.

The lake was formed from the crater of a large volcano in the Taupo Volcanic Zone. Its last major eruption was about 240,000 years ago. After the eruption, the magma chamber underneath the volcano collapsed. The circular depression left behind is the Rotorua Caldera, which is the site of the lake. Several other lakes of volcanic origin are located nearby to the east, around the base of the active volcano Mount Tarawera.

hello! im at lake taupo in the internet cafe applying for my australia working visa. its pretty here and the sun continues to shine which is brilliant. just stopped at some volcano's, they're all dusty on top from some small "cough's"! they also are covered in snow. im going to go for a swim in a min and then bbq by the lake later so i better go and buy some food! last night i went to u u (?!) i think! it was a bar covered in mirrors, bit scary when you look like this! hehe.

But I haven`t been Mad Dog Riverboarding, or tied to the back of a water jet - or swung across a river, or seen the beautiful Rainforest Retreat. 23rd of November and Nichola has moved on to Wellington. She is staying at the Abel Tasman Hotel and as well as her sight seeing is going to meet up with a old langley school friend who now lives in New Zealand.
She has visited Te Papa museum and beach which there are a few pictures of posted here.

Hi Nic

Thought I would email you this time rather than text. It was great to receive your parcel today with the DVD with your pictures on it. It all looks fantastic particularly the wondering sunsets and also the pictures on yourself and fellow travellers are good to see. I also liked the baby kangeroos they are so sweet. As you know it bought tears to my eyes and I couldn't even read the card to dad down the phone! silly me!!

You ask a lot about what is happening hear - well not a lot really, nothing changes. Don't expect too much re the bathroom. Dad has been working hard tiling and we had his friend here to plaster as you know because we had holes in the walls!! but its starting to look better although we have no bath or wash basin so everyone is using the shower and all washes and teeth cleaning happen in the kitchen now. Still I expect you won't find it too much of a pain. You never know things may have moved on by the time you get back.

Dad has gone to Langley with Sophie because she has got mad keen on going to Kenya for four weeks in 2009 as part of a World Challenge expedition. The cost is £3,500 and she says she intends to raise the cash herself but first of all she has to get selected. We will see!!

I have been wearing my lovely necklace since it arrived - thank you so much again. I really enjoyed my birthday. In the day I went to the Kings Road with Bev. She bought me lunch in Peter Jones in the Brasserie which was lovely and afterwards we had a make over which was scarey! Then we did some shopping, coffee and home. A good day. In the evening we went to Coombe Lodge as you know and had lots of fun and food. I had loads of lovely presents, including my one carat diamond eternity ring from dad which is gorgeous and a lovely watch from nan and grandad. It was a very special day and one I shall always remember. Thank you to everyone who made it so good for me xx

Can't believe its nearly time for you to come home already although it does also seem a long while since you left. I shall have to wash your bed soon! Seems that Emma and me will be picking you up from the airport. Grandad has offered too but I think we will be the ones. Thanks for the offer though dad.

Hey!

So my blog pretty much says it all! Today I went into Queenstown for a look around. It's very nice here with big lakes surrounded by snow capped mountains and the sun is shining hot, which I think is a bit of a rarity here! I went Mad Dog river boarding this afternoon which is like white water rafting but on a body board instead of a boat... you get very wet! It was really exciting and the guides were good at making sure you go in the right direction. At the end we got a ride tied to the back of a water jet. I also went down a slide on my body board which was awesome as you skidded almost to the other side of the river! And I went on the swing across and dropped into the water, although I didn't land very well and hurt my back a bit but it seems ok now. It was a good belly/back flop anyhow! I just had a Ferg Burger for dinner which was a bit of a beast, really tasty too.

I saw all the pictures from Mum's birthday! They look really merry hehe! I was sad not to have been there, it looks like you had a good time. I'm glad you get to have some fun too!

So what else is new at home? I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon.

I'm having serious computer issues tonight, this is my 3rd internet cafe grr! Anyway I hope you are all well...

I'm getting really big as I eat 3 meals a day but I don't have to eat mealworms or nasty bugs. I don't scream in the car very often now and I sleep in my cot until I get bored and then I wake everyone up.

Mummy and daddy have been watching "I'm a Celebrity Get me out of here" but they said they didn't see you.

We did quickly see Nichola on MSN last night but she didn't say much so here is some info on NZ.

New Zealand is a country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two large islands (the North Island and the South Island) and numerous smaller islands, most notably Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Chatham Islands. In Māori, New Zealand has come to be known as Aotearoa, which is usually translated into English as The Land of the Long White Cloud. Hello!

I'm suprised you're getting help in to do the plastering, that's all! From what I hear you need it (hehe) Emma was moaning!

So, here I am in New Zealand! It was very pretty flying in. I've been lazy today catching up on missed lay-ins and watching some movies in my room. I have two double beds to myself so I put them both together haha! Would be good if I could ship you lot in, I'd sleep on the floor then to fit you all in.

So I had a very small wander via the supermarket earlier and I don't think there's too much to see here in Christchurch. All I have is a kettle and a teaspoon but I'm quite pleased with my healthy-ish food supply - it's hard not to eat badly when you're on the go! Nick from my last tour (from Croydon!) is also on this next tour, starting friday. He just messaged me so we might meet up and explore.

I've just been given an extra hour on internet for minding the hotel reception for a minute or too haha! Didn't even have to move.

As for Melbourne I've been doing a bit more research and STA are saying it might be cheaper to fly back mid January, although I'm finding better flights elsewhere with random airlines. I don't think I'll be booking anything until I get home as I want to sort out my visa first, but if all goes to plan then I'll be going sooner rather than later. I don't want to be hanging around with no job. You'll still have to put up with me on Christmas and Boxing day though! I think New Year will be at home, and I can celebrate Australia Day in Melbourne afterwards which is meant to be just as big!

So Emma finally got her date to move - about time really! That must be exciting. What else has happened at home?

Climbed Harbour Bridge Lunched on Opera House steps, met up withJody, the rocks market, cruised to Watson Bay and around Martins Place, QVC, Pitts road, Darling harbour, er...saw some really cool Christmas decorations which is weird when its so warm and sunny, Today was nice and meeting some more people tomorrow and going to Bondi Beach.

Adora Downs was once part of the enormous land holding of black soil rolling open plains which belonged to Sir James Tyson M.L.C., Australia's native born first self-made millionaire, a cattle king and bachelor who died intestate in 1898 aged 79 years.

It took the government until 1911 to sort out his huge estate, the land was surveyed into small holdings of 200 acres each, for closer settlement. The holdings were settled and the virgin soils ploughed with single and double furrow ploughs, drawn by draught horses and steered by farmers on foot. Today high-technical, wide span machinery is drawn by large computerised tractors.

The rich black soil is 60 feet deep and produces a wealth of cereal crops such as wheat, barley, sorghum, corn and sunflowers etc., along with hi-grade cotton, broadacre farming and beef cattle grazing adding diversity to the neighbouring holdings. There are several volcanic mountains in the area, Taylor, Tyson and Russell which span within close proximity of Adora Downs.

Adora Downs was purchased from the crown in 1911 by Erwin Charles Frederic, who later sold to William Wagner in 1927. The Wagner family commenced a successful milking dairy along with agricultural produce. After their deaths, their son, Frank and daughter, Annie both of whom never married continued to farm mainly beef cattle. After their deaths, Adora Downs was purchased in 1982 by Boyd and Gloria Smith. This was only part of Frank Wagner's holdings estate of $2.5m, which be bequeathed to the Methodist Church of Pitsworth.

After an eleven year drought on the Downs, Boyd and Gloria decided to share their paradise by diversifying into farm tourism.

Hello! Missing you today.

I didn't say I did a bungy jump! Take it off otherwise I'll have to do it haha. Sky dive was crazy I've got the best DVD of it - can't wait to show you! It was a "Minjin swing" I did - not quite so crazy. Elise has grown up lots already! Ahh! I went to Lake McKenzie and a ship wreck today - the lake was crystal clear and amazing.

Visited last in early August, 2007. I have been to Rockhampton a couple of times and have been realy impressed with the quality, service and price of Rockhampton Plaza Hotel particularly.
The rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated and the beds are very comfortable!
I always eat at the restaurant.. the food is amazing!
The bar is a great place to socialise and meet up with friends over a few drinks with a great big plasma tv!
The staff are always friendly and ready to help you out.
I would recommend this hotel, they are doing a great job! Everytime I visit there have been improvements made under the new management/ownership!

Hello!

It's good reading up on the blog as there are so many things mentioned that I forget to tell too! I HAVE been on the skyrail and i DID go to the Tjapukai centre - that was fun. They did a good show for us acting out as Cassowary birds (3rd biggest found here in rainforest) and other animals. I got to throw a boomerang (not very well!) and a spear too. Nanny the Great Barrier Reef is the biggest best in the world, you can see it from space! It's been top of my list of things I want to see for years! It's where all the fish and exciting underwater things are... I saw a stingray and a turtle and giant clams the same as in that picture you've put up! I took my underwater camera with me so hopefully it worked and you can see. Some people saw white-tipped sharks but I missed out... maybe I'll spot them when I sail the whitsundays tomorrow. I think Elise is heavier than my Joey Oliver, and they were about the same age. Give her a hug from me! So did Sophie go on any rides?! Did Addy-poo get his car fixed?

Bunjee jump in the rain forest

Nichola has taken a brave step, or is it a brave leap, bunjee jumped in the rainforest. This sport is not for the faint hearted.
Of all the adventure activities to do in Tropical North Queensland, there are none that raise the hairs on people's backs like Bungy Jumping does. The idea of throwing yourself off a high tower towards a shallow pool with a giant rubber band tied attached to your ankles is, to put it mildly, scary as hell for most people.

It's all about the fear factor. Bungy jumping for some people is about pushing your limits, challenging your mind and body, and simply being able to say, “I did it!”

27th October and news from Nichola is that she is now out of the rainforest. Whilst there she enjoyed the company of 'Amazing' butterflies very very pretty. She reports that she is feeling a bit giddy after a very twisty trip along roads to get out of the rainforest.
Plans for the rest of the day well to go and have a dip in the hotel pool before her next adventure, another big one, the Barrier Reef.Whilst in the rainforest Nichola stayed at the rainforest lodge (see pictures).

Part of the Daintree National Park, Mossman Gorge is one of the most popular visitor spots in the Wet Tropics. The rainforest walks are spectacular and the creek offers scenic views and opportunities for swimming. You can picnic by the river and spend hours relaxing in the cool shade of the rainforest. The Short Loop takes you along the banks of Mossman River, with plenty of spots to swim and play in the g the banks.

The Gorge Circuit is a three kilometre return loop which continues on from the short walk along the Mossman River and takes you over the old wooden suspension bridge and up into some towering rainforest. Listen to the many different bird calls and spend some time pondering the magnificence of the giant fig trees with their roots snaking along the forest floor. Escape the crowds of the carpark and wander the primeval rainforest with its rivers full of boulders and small ferny creeks.

Hello! Here's a pic of our "P" party day... I'm the plant! I've just been abandoned by everyone on my tour, a lot of them are heading down the east coast and they flew to Cairns yesterday. I'm flying there tomorrow and will get to catch up with them for one last night so I'm looking forward to that! Then I've got a couple of days to browse surf shops for a new bikini and perhaps some funky shorts before starting my next tour and meeting lots more people. Yesterday I went to the Flying Doctors presentation - they save people from the remoteness of this northern territory! I also held a Joey - a baby kangaroo - that was really cool. Hows is everyone at home? Hope you're all well and enjoy laughing at the picture! I've enjoyed the ones you've posted on my blog!

Nichola has now finished the first part of her wild adventure and has had a couple of days at Alice Springs to get a bit of rest Ha Ha.

Cairns (pronounced /ˈkeːnz/ or /ˈkɛɹnz/ or (cans), 16°57′S, 145°45′E) is a regional city and Local Government Area located in Queensland, Australia. Originally settled in 1876, and named after William Wellington Cairns (the then Governor of Queensland) to serve miners heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, the settlement declined when an easier route was discovered from Port Douglas. However, Cairns' future was secured as it developed into a railhead and major port for the exportation of sugar cane, gold, precious metals and agricultural industries from the surrounding coastal and Tableland regions. The city is rapidly expanding, with a population of 127,438 (as of Feb, 2006),[4] and is reliant on the sugar and tourism industries.

The City of Cairns lies about 1,720 kilometres (1,070 miles) from Brisbane and about 2,500 kilometres (1,600 miles) from Sydney by road.

Kings Canyon

Today Nichola has moved on to Kings Canyon.

The walls of Kings Canyon are over 100 metres high, with Kings Creek at the bottom. Part of the gorge is a sacred Aboriginal site and visitors are discouraged from walking off the walking tracks.

Two walks exists at Kings Canyon. The 2 km (return) and approximately 1 hour Kings Creek Walk traces the bottom of the gorge. At the end of the walk is a platform, with views of the canyon walls above. The 6 km (loop) and 3-4 hour Kings Canyon Rim Walk traces the top of the canyon. A steep climb at the beginning of the walk, which locals call "Heartbreak Hill" (or "Heart Attack Hill", due to its steepness), takes visitors up to the top, with spectacular views of the gorge below and of the surrounding landscape. About half way during the walk, a detour descends to Garden of Eden, a permanent waterhole surrounded by lush plant life. The last half of the walk passes through a large maze of weathered sandstone domes, reminiscent of the Bungle Bungle. A slow descent brings the visitor back to the starting point. The loop can also be done in reverse (anti-clockwise), but the National Park Rangers encourage visitors to walk in one direction.

The 22 km Giles Track connects Kings Canyon to Kathleen Springs and is popular with more adventurous hikers.
Nichola only has three days left of this part of her adventure as on the 22nd she moves on to Cairns to carry on down the East coast.

I ate witchetty grubs and kangaroo tail with aboriginals for breakfast - will stick to toast in future! Tired today just got to Uluru and will go to bed soon say hi to everyone. XXXX

AND IF YOU WANT TO TRY IT AT HOME

Curried Kangaroo Tail

1 Tail
2 oz Butter
1 tb Flour
1 tb Curry powder
2 Onions, sliced
1 Sour apple cut into dice
1 tb Lemon juice
3/4 pt Stock
Salt

Method: Wash, blanch and dry the tail thoroughly, and divide it at the joints. Fry the tail lightly in hot butter, take it up, put in the sliced onions, and fry them for a few minutes without browning. Sprinkle in the flour and curry-powder, and cook gently for at least 20 minutes, stirring frequently. Add the stock, bring to the boil, stirring meanwhile, and replace the tail in the stewpan. Cover closely, and cook gently until tender, then add the lemon-juice and more seasoning if necessary. Arrange the pieces of tail on a hot dish, strain the sauce over, and serve with boiled rice.

Time: from 2 to 3 hours.

D of E award presentation

Last night (monday 15th October). Mum and I went to Langley Park School to watch Sophies presentation about the bronze award trip she went on earlier this year.
The presentation was also about the silver award trips so we had to watch a few slide shows before we got to see Sophies!! Some five minute presentations went on for 20 minutes but it was good to see how well all the groups had done.
Sophies group talked about the highs and lows of the walk and what they had achieved from it.It was good to see the pictures and hear about what they did.
The pictures of the Norfolk trip where very interesting too didn't realise there was so much mud involved.What was evident was the great fun and friendships that can be achieved by hard determined effort to overcome arduous conditions by working as a team.

Hello!

I just saw my first kangaroo! There are parrots flying around a bit too. Today I crossed the tropic of capricorn and climbed the devils marbles which was amazing, I wanted to stay there longer. We've driven further than the distance from scotland to home in a day, plus all the rest of the travelling we've done, and there is nothing the whole way. The roads are straight straight straight! We have stopped along the way though, at the most remote but really cool places. Wish you were all here to see! Tomorrow I'm going on a bushtucker tour in the morning, then a bit of a look around Alice Springs town before hiking King's Canyon for 3 hours. Should be a another good one!

Any news on your house Emma? I keep hearing songs that remind me of you, Sophie. Adam I hope you fixed your car ok. Daniel thanks for the advice! Nanny and Grandad I hope you had a nice late christmas present and that the theatre was good. Mum don't spend too much time in Bromley! Saturday evening - and nothing on T.V. except Rugby!! So I`ve just come up to the computer and typed in Northern Territory - Australia. I found lots of lovely photos and interesting information under www.travelnt.com. I have absolutely no knowledge of Australia, so if I can`t be there, Nichola, I am at least trying to find out a little bit about the places you are visiting..... I always thought there must be more to the world than Bromley.........I went there today (of course) with Gail and Elise, and she was really good and happy and didnt start screaming until we got in the car to come home (Elise wasn`t much trouble either!!) Tennant Creek is approximately 1000 kilometres south of the territory capital, Darwin, and 500 kilometres north of Alice Springs. The town is named after a nearby watercourse of the same name. At the 2001 census, Tennant Creek had a population of 3,185, of which 1,176 identified themselves as Aboriginal.[1] Tennant Creek is near well-known attractions including the Devils Marbles, Lake Mary Ann, Battery Hill Mining Centre and the Nyinkka Nyunyu Culture Centre and is the hub of the sprawling Barkly Tablelands, vast elevated plains of black soil with golden Mitchell grass, that cover more than 240,000 square kilometres.

I did see croc's today!!! So cool, they could have jumped right up and got us.
I ate a water lilly an aboridginal gave me.
Cruising through gorge and swimming in waterfall tomorrow.
